Golf has primarily been a game for men until the past few years. Women are starting to see that there’s more to golf than just hitting a ball. While men are still leading the stats in “who’s golfing”, women are starting to make up a larger portion than they did in years past. More and more lessons, golf teaching aids, and even special clubs and gear are being made available to the women joining this great game.
According to what the National Golf Foundation defines as “core” golfers (those who play at least eight times a year and an average of 37 rounds yearly) women currently make up 18 percent of the 12.5 million golfers. What’s more important to note is how many women are picking up the game of golf over the past few years. The number of occasional female golfers (those playing between 1 and 7 times a year) soared from 2.6 million in 1997 to 4.3 million last year! Seeing the opportunity to market products to this new group of golfers, opens up the door to many manufacturers inventing newer and better golf teaching aids in order to keep these beginning golfers interested in playing the game.
With women making more appearances on the golf courses, course directors are also starting to pay attention. In addition to lessons and golf teaching aids, they’re seeing new opportunities to extend their invitations as well as some new income springing up from the ladies. For example, at The Boulders in Scottsdale, AZ, there are golf and spa packages where ladies can enjoy spa treatments in between golf lessons.
Here is a stat you might not know: PGA pro tour players miss 50% of their 6 foot putts! There is a golf teaching aid designed specifically for this purpose. Any golfer knows the importance of improving your short game, and this tool is one of the best on the markets.
Another important tip is to remember to take the shot you’re given…not the shot you want. As easy as this may sound, it’s not always so simple. While it’s tempting to take that “Tiger Woods” in between the trees and over the bunker shot…many times it’s better to take the straight shot back into the fairway.
To all the ladies joining this great game of golf, know that you can’t be a pro the first time on the course! Golf is a game of patience, fun, and skill – and the best golf teaching aids are right here at your fingertips!

How many golf putting aids do you have? I’ll bet you have one even in your office right now. Even though putting bores me (and my putts per round show it), it is a critical component of your game if you want to shoot lower scores.
Practicing your putting can get monotonous and boring; and a training aid specific to your putting problem can make all the difference in the world. In fact, by keeping you interested in practicing, these aids can hone your putting leaps and bounds ahead of your playing partners and competitors.
Don’t waste your time trying every putting aid on the market. It is easy to get caught up in the trap to go store to store trying every one you can get your hands on. While I commend you on your persistence and willingness to thoroughly research before you buy, there is a point at which you need to make a decision and get on with it!
The the first step to getting a golf putting aid that will help you, is finding out what your putting deficiency is.
There can be many issues/problems in your putting. For example you can have excess head and body movement. Poor putter path back and through; inconsistent contact with ball and putter face; erratic tempo throughout stroke, and many others. The list can go on and on, but I think you get the idea.
Figuring out what your issue is will give you direction on what putting aid to look in to. These training aids can get very expensive, so you do not want to be hasty and premature in your purchase decision. In fact, sometimes you can make your own golf putting aid if need be.
Try it before you buy it! Now I know early on I said don’t go hog wild trying every training aid in the store, you definitely need to narrow down your choices and then go into a local golf store to try it out.
Many of these training aids for putting can be demoed right in the store. Why not try it before you buy it? What a novel idea eh? If you give it a go first, you will have a better idea of whether it can help your putting or not.
I’ve gone into the golf shop looking at these, tried one, and was blown away at how different it was to actually use it first. Never…I mean never buy it without trying to find it locally! You’re throwing your money out the window!
Now comes the make-or-break point! To be successful, you need to “use it consistently!” Let me say that one more time, “use it consistently!” The ONLY way you will see improvement is to practice with your new aid as much as possible. If it can be done in your home, do it daily. If you need to go to the range, try to do it at least 2 times a week.
So many golfers buy something on a whim, only to use it once or twice and that’s it! Not a smart move if you want to see results. So remember…consistency is the key to success!

Golf Putting Aids Can Shave Strokes Off Your Score
When you start searching Colorado maps and resources the first thing you notice are the great number of golf courses in the state of Colorado.
In the mountains, the Aspen area is sparse in the number of golf courses compared to the Vail area, This might have something to do with former President Gerald Ford giving attention to Vail over Aspen. As you might remember, former President Ford was a big golf fan and player. Although not a tournament-class player, he had fun playing as long as you weren’t in his line of fire with a stray golf ball. For the younger people… Gerald Ford had a bad habit of hitting bystanders.
What about the Denver area? Wow, a whopping number of golf courses are listed, over 40 featured ones alone. It makes you wonder if there’s any room for a city.
Colorado Springs is no slouch. there are about 40 golf courses around that area too and the weather tends to be nicer due to a little thing called the Palmer Divide near Monument. The divide is about 3,000 feet above Denver and 2,000 feet or so above Colorado Springs. Storms coming from the north tend to stall on Palmer Divide and so your golf outing is less likely to be interrupted. Storms from the west are different. Better get off the golf course before lightning decides you’re its next target.
The Fort Collins area shows about 30 golf courses and the Pueblo area about 10. Pueblo isn’t as big into golf as its northern neighbors. Possibly because of its working class roots as a steel town and the surrounding agricultural areas. For some reason, steel workers and farmers usually find better things to be doing than golfing.
The Grand Junction area has about twice as many golf courses than the Pueblo area. Do you suppose tending orchards in Grand Junction (peaches, cherries, apples) gives them the desire to play golf more?
The Grand Lake area is also thin with golf courses. But what golf courses there are there have to be good. Just being in the area is fantastic…what with the huge (by Colorado standards – this isn’t Minnesota) Grand Lake and gorgeous Rocky Mountain National Park nearby. If you want to get away from the maddening crowds and experience the Rocky Mountains at its best, check out the Telluride area. Gasps of awe are guaranteed in this part of the Rocky Mountains.
A word of warning though. If you’re from a lower elevation state I’d suggest using an electric cart. Playing golf five to nine thousand feet higher than you’re used to, can make 18 holes feel like a 30 mile marathon. There is a good thing though. Your golf ball will travel farther than you’ve ever hit before thanks to that thin air.
That being said, whenever you golf in Colorado, you’re bound to have a good time. The weather is great (over 300 sunny days per year) with a gorgeous scenery that can’t be beat anywhere else in the world.

Have you ever walked into your local golf store or a nearby Dick’s Sporting Goods store to get some golf balls? It may seem like the easiest task at hand as you walk from your car, through the parking lot, and into the store. You’re just there to pick up some good old golf balls for your game later that evening. You pass a nice looking golf shirt, some golf shoes, and then you see them. You stop dead in your tracks.
The shelves… upon shelves… upon shelves of golf balls seem to stare blankly at you. And they all seem to be screaming at the same time: Long distance, More spin, More control, Hi-spin, Raw distance fusion. Raw distance fusion? you ask yourself.
Ok, time out! It’s time to take a deep breath and relax. No, the golf ball world does not want to make you have a panic attack before you even get out on the green! But, it is no question that buying golf balls, even for some experienced golfers, can be a tad bit confusing. Let’s take a closer look at the basic types of golf balls on the market today and perhaps this will help you in your next endeavor into the store!
Basic facts about golf balls:
To begin, there are some specifications that all golf balls must meet in order to be sold for golfers. First, all regulated golf balls have a size limit. This limit is 1.68 inches in diameter. And, a golf ball cannot be any heavier than 1.62 ounces. The only other specification that must be met on a golf ball is it’s shape – yes, it must be round! No square, rectangle, or triangle balls allowed.
The importance of compression:
Quite simply put, the compression of a golf ball will give you a certain feeling from having hit the ball – it will either feel solid or not solid enough. The higher the compression of a golf ball, the more solid it will feel to you. Typically, golf ball compressions are rated between 80 and 100 – 90 being the most common. What type of golf ball compression you favor is completely up to you. In the game of golf, no two players are the same.
Ball coverings:
Golf ball coverings come in two main types of materials: Surlyn and Balata. First, a golf ball covered with the material Surlyn cannot be scuffed or broken. This is because Surlyn is a manmade substance that withstands a great amount of pressure and outside damage. A golf ball made of Surlyn also has a solid core on the inside The positive aspects of getting golf balls covered with Surlyn are that they are fairly inexpensive, have a long life, and can travel far distances. On the other hand, these balls get less spin than others.
The other type of golf ball to look at is one that is made with Balata. Balata balls have liquid-filled cores. These cores are then bound together with rubber and covered with Balata – which is a fairly soft covering. Although a Balata covering can be nicked and cut up, it allows the ball to have more spin and backspin than otherwise usual. For you, this means more control over your golf ball. Despite its higher cost and shorter life on the golf course, it is a good choice of balls for experienced players.
Once you find the golf ball that is right for you, the only thing you will have to get nervous about is whether or not you should buy one case or two of them!

Golf Balls What Type Should You Buy
Like all other sports, golf needs that you are geared up with the best equipments to properly play the game. This paper gives you an idea of the standard golf tools one requires to be able to learn and play golf properly.
For novice, the main golf tool is a golf ball. Golf balls are dimpled tiny balls, use in to play golf. They are dimpled to go far when driven by golf clubs.
Also another important golf tool is a golf club or golf driver. Golf drivers come in too many varieties. This is because a golf course has too many kinds of landscapes and different golf clubs are required to make the best drive. Depending on the landscape, if sand, grass or cement, a golf club is important to make the perfect drive. Expert golfers usually have a case or two of golf clubs to cater to their golf requirements. Most golf stores and sports tool store sell golf clubs. Some golf clubs are sold in sets while other are sold alone.
To take care of your golf equipment, such as your golf club, a golf bag golf club cover is important. A golf bag will, for sure, hold your golf club in one place and will make it more easy for your caddy to bring your many golf clubs. Golf bags can also hold golf balls and also other golf equipment such as water bottle to quench your thirst while under the beautiful sun or extra shirt or your regular shoes. On the other hand, a golf club cover covers the edge of your golf club. This is done so to protect your golf club from unwanted scratches and dents. Dents can cause your drive to go from good to bad. Dents in golf clubs can affect the drive of your golf ball. With these golf tools, you can take care of the state of your club and your rich sport.
One golf tool that you also need to invest on is a nice pair of golf shoes. Golf shoes are different from standard rubber shoes or jogging shoes. Golf shoes are made to walk on greens – the type where the sport is played. Golf shoes usually have pointed rubber under the soles to grip the earth and sand under your feet. This way, unnecessary shaking or moving is prevented. This is useful because shaking can cause you to not hit the golf ball or to hit the golf ball in the wrong way. If you plan to play good golf a nice pair of golf shoes is a important golf tool to add up to your list. Choose one that is sturdy yet comfortable enough for you to walk into. Golf is a sport that requires walking from one hole to the other or to where your ball goes (you can not use golf carts on the greens) and thus, if your golf shoes are no good, you would have a hard time playing your game.
A golf tool usually provided by most golf courses (aside from the golf ball) is the tee. The tee is the tiny pin like thing that you punch to the ground to stand your ball into. The tee is use in teeing off (the start of your first drive) thus the name.
The most great golf tool ever created (for me, that is) is the golf cart. Golf carts can take you from one hole to the other, though as I said earlier they are not allowed on the greens, they still lessen the burden of having to walk under the hot sun. This golf equipment can be acquired from golf courses. Golf players are normally made to use golf tool such as this to give them a good and easier time playing the game.
Many specialty shops and sport shops offer golf tools. The internet is also a great source of golf equipment. Used golf tools are even auctioned off the internet, if you are on a tight budget. Check out your golf shop, sports shop, specialty shops, E-bay or Yahoo! for your golf equipment requirements.

Gifts, as is known are matter of expressing intimacy and are exchanged without price. Golf gifts are no exception. Being a golfer when you think of gifting something to anyone the first thing which will come to your mind will surely be the golf gift. Usually golf gifts are given to potential young golfers to encourage them to play more and more golf.
You have to choose perfect golf gifts for these young beginners considering their style. You have plenty of golf articles and accessories to choose from. To name some of golf gifts they are golf clubs, golf irons, golf bags, golf knickers, classic ball case etc. IN the succeeding paragraphs we will elaborate on importance of each golf gift.
In my opinion golf books are the best golf gifts for beginners. A beginner learns lot of things about game and adds to his/her knowledge of the game by reading golf books
Next come golf lessons. These lessons help potential beginners to decide whether he/she really wants to take the game or he/she likes the golf or not. Golf lessons, golf books and CDs/DVDs are excellent golf gifts for beginners.
Many beginners start playing golf with hired or borrowed golf clubs. Usually, golf clubs are considered as matter of personal choice. However, one may not be willing to purchase expensive golf clubs at the beginning. For such people first set of golf club is considered as best gift amongst other golf gifts. Remember to present these golf clubs in a golf bag.
There are number of golf accessories available in markets which as categorized as golf gifts. Golf gloves, ball markers and tees, though some what expensive, are nice golf gifts. Depending to you affordability and intimacy to the person you are going to present golf gifts you may like to present a full set of golf starter kit to a potential beginner.
Golf balls are also the popular articles for presenting as golf gifts. Beginners are not concerned about the type, compression and construction of these golf balls. You can choose golf balls personalizing with nickname, name or customs logo of the beginner. Only disadvantage of gifting such golf balls is that if the ball is lost the person to whom you have gifted it may get upset.
Golf shoes are other option from the golf gifts. Golf shoes are basic requirement for playing golf. Choosing a right shoe that will be fitting and providing comfort to the person you are gifting is not an easy task. Remember you have alternate option of gift certificate. Instead of presenting golf shoes as golf gifts, present a gift certificate and allow him/her to purchase shoes of his/her choice.
Golf courses are considered to be one of the expensive ventures of sports due to their fees structure. To avoid such expensive venture, driving ranges are considered to be best alternative. Presenting a membership of driving range may be the best among golf gifts for a beginner.
Ball tokens, golf gift certificates and 10 bucket pass are the other golf gifts available. Golf gifts are considered to be a motivating factor for beginners.
Golf Grip kits are a common phenomenon amongst golfers. Golfers are always choosy about their golf grip kits. Golf grip kits consist of tape, instruction book and a CD or DVD containing photos about use of golf equipments. Usually, golf grip kits are provided with golf irons and golf grips. Golf grip kits provide you all information like specification, maintenance guide and instruction about the handling of the equipment. Golf grip kits are of utmost importance for the beginners are they get the required information of golf equipments through these golf grip kits.

Golf Score
When you are playing the great game of golf, your golf scores become both your best friends as well as your worst enemies. Many players live by their golf scores and judge their progress according to what the score card says. While you might think that your golf scores are the best gauge of how you are coming along as a golfer, that isn’t necessarily the case.
The way golf scores are tallied can mean so many things. Just because you shoot an 8 on a par 4 doesn’t necessarily mean you are a bad golfer. It might mean that you had a bad drive and a mis-aimed chip but it doesn’t make you a bad golfer. So don’t put too much stock into what the scorecard says. Judge your golf game by how you play rather than what your scores are.
Golf scores are only meant to help you keep track of the strokes you take to get from tee box to the hole. They don’t ever take into consideration things like hazards, weather conditions, or anxiety. Sure, you can’t keep track of how you are doing without paying attention to your golf scores, but you still need to keep in mind that there are a million variables that can make your score fluctuate.
Of course, if you’re a golfer, you know all the terminology birdie, eagle, bogey, double eagle (if you’re really lucky) but the real story in golf scores lies in how you played the course and navigated the hole. Instead of keeping track of scores, why don’t you keep track of where you were for a particular shot and how that shot came out?
Let’s say, you make a horrible drive on a par 4 and only end up 100 yards off the tee box. Let’s hope it’s past the women’s tee if you know what I mean! So now you are faced with a long fairway shot. You pick up your favorite club and smack a beautiful flyer right on the green. Who’s going to say that wasn’t a good golf shot? You end up with a par on the hole, but your score doesn’t really reflect that amazing shot now does it?
The point is, don’t put too much emphasis on the amount of strokes on your scorecard. Think about your golf score as a reflection of the amazing shots you’ve made as well as the flubbers you’ve had to live through as well. Then you can find out what kind of a golfer you are and not have to live by the golf score alone.
However, the Scots are generally adamant that the game of golf was a Scottish invention on St. Andrews golf course. The name “golf” is a derivative of the Dutch word “kolf” however, so as for who really invented the game, we say who really cares!
It really doesn’t matter who actually invented the game, but what does matter is how the history of golf has evolved over the years. Golf courses have not always had eighteen holes. St. Andrews began with eleven holes dictated by the topography of the land the course was located on. Players would play the eleven holes out and then back in to total 22 holes. Later, several of the holes were deemed too short and were combined with each other. That reduced the number from 11 down to 9 so a complete round of golf was comprised of 18 holes.
By 1744, the game of golf had become wildly popular. So much so that a group of men called Gentlemen Golfers decided that a set of rules must be laid out for fair play. They came up with a list of thirteen guidelines on playing the game.
Major changes since the 19th century have occurred in the equipment needed for play. Better mowers made greens easier to play on. Golf balls designs would evolve by using rubber and man-made materials which made the ball fly longer on a drive. The wooden golf tee would make the drive easier.
No discussion of golf history would be complete without talking about the advances made in golf clubs. Metal shafts came about in the 1930s and most drivers were made of wood which is why they are called woods today even though they are most commonly made these days of metal or titanium. The golf shaft design has also gravitated towards graphite which is lighter and makes the club easier to swing.
When referring to the history of golf, we can debate exactly where the game originated, but the game of golf as we know it today, most certainly came about in Scotland. Even if we’re wrong, we do still have this wonderful game and most of us are very glad about that!
Golf Course
The game of golf is played on a golf course obviously. But have you ever thought what goes into making a good golf course? I mean, what makes a good golf course, and what makes a not-so-good golf course? While we don’t have the space to go through specific design layouts, we can touch on some of the aspects of a golf course that makes it fun to play yet challenging too.
Like the miniature golf course, a regular golf course should be fun. You really can’t add the fun windmills or other hazards on a regular golf course, but you can use the natural elements of the land to help build challenges into the layout.
Obviously, the first thing you’re going to need is land. I mean, you’re going to need A LOT of land! The golf course must have some long yardage holes as well as some shorter yardage holes. However, most golfers will agree that having mostly longer holes is a great challenge. But they also need those short par 3s for a little ego boost!
Challengers on the golf courses are numerous especialy when you have several sand bunkers. Bunkers are now placed on the fairways as well as around the bunkers causing more golfers headaches! Having to hit out of the sand provides for all sorts of stroke modifications, and golfers love to have the challenge at hand!
The challengers on the golf courses are numerous one such is the dreaded water hazards. Rivers and lakes in theire natural enviroment are found everywere on the golf course. and man made water hazards are dug out and then filled with water over large areas! Water hazards make a player have to use finesse to avoid them and make a golf course fun to navigate.
The golf course that we play most often used to be a cow pasture. The rolling hills that used to have Holstein’s instead of golf carts make this particular golf course a lot of fun to try and get “up and down” on. Rolling hills cause the golf ball to- you must guess here – roll! You think you have a great drive and you just might have but when you ball lands on the side of a hill two things will happen either it will stop dead a harder shot or it wiil carry on down the side of the hill. Either way, this is another way to make a golf course challenging.
Natural trees and woods are also part of the golf course environment. When you hear the sound of your ball hitting a tree on the golf course there is no sound worse. Then you have the fun task of trying to find out where the ball landed. Did it go further in or did the tree propel it out into the fairway? You have a great way of either way to challenge yourself against natural elements.
The fun of designing a golf course is shared by player and designer alike. Take in the natural elements of your favorite golf course and then navigate through those hazards with a positive attitude. Then you’ll be having fun!

Golfers will go to great lengths to hit the golf ball better. Many Golfers have a tendency to believe just about anybody and everybody that promises to have a Theory on a better golf swing. And although in the back of your mind – you know that much of this stuff is too good to be true – your passion for golf overwhelms all sense of better judgment.
The question is why would a person start trying to use a golf swing such as something called a Stack and Tilt? Which, if you haven’t already heard – is just another invented golf swing that was dreamed up by a couple of snake oil salesman preying on desperate Golfers – that somehow became the latest “hot” thing to do for all of about 5 minutes.
However, thankfully it has now been officially thrown in the overflowing dumpster with all the other golf fads that have passed. This new swing sensation was supposedly being used by a bunch of PGA Tour Players – when in fact, how many of these Tour Players are using this concept today? Probably the same amount that are using another once hot fad that’s in the overflowing dumpster of new golf swings – something called Natural Golf.
Thankfully as we scan the golf internet chat rooms – there is little talk of this Stack and Tilt thing – unlike 5 months ago when it was the latest and greatest. And just like much of America was in a real estate frenzy just a couple of years ago where you had to be in real estate or you were missing something big – the gurus of the golf internet chat rooms had desperate Golfers worked up into a similar sort of maniacal frenzy about having to try this new golf swing.
“I heard that Tiger is going to start using the Stack and Tilt!” ‘My cousin has a friend that knows a guy whose wife is friends with someone that lives next to Mickelson’s accountant and she says that Mickelson is also trying it!’ “I usually score around 95 and I shot a 62 my very first round using it!”
And blessedly, as GMS announced many months ago (in the December 12th, 2007 issue of Golf Improvement Weekly) that this new swing should be labeled as the Stack and Shank – it is now (18 months later) being referred to by that moniker by the same gurus who were proclaiming it as the greatest thing since interchangeable shafts for your Driver. All those poor Golfers that got caught up with another golf swing fad – that wasted the last 18 months not improving, but most likely learning to shank the golf ball and lose distance on their tee shots.
Yet, just like all other fads – it seems that there still might be some Golfers that are now just starting to try out the Stack and Shank – kind of like the little kid that arrived at his friends birthday party at 4:00 pm when it really started at 1:00 pm – saying: “Hey guys, where are you going? Why are you leaving the party already?” ‘Jimmy, we ate the cake and opened the presents – the party is over. There is some leftover birthday cake on the table, but it wasn’t very good – too much frosting and sprinkles – not enough cake.’ “Oh, I’m hungry – I’ll eat anything!”
How is it that people that are so smart that they could build businesses or be key personal in a business – people that have to deal with snake oil salesman everyday as part of their career – get hornsnaggled by a couple of golf pro’s touting their revolutionary golf swing?
I was very lucky at the start of my life in golf – as I was able to train under a very smart Golf Professional that said to me: “Marky, the golf swing is like a box of Kellogg Corn Flakes.” To which I answered probably like you are right now – ‘huh?’
He continued – “The golf swing is like a box of Kellogg Corn Flakes. What’s inside the box never changes – the only thing that changes is the packaging.”
And what he meant was: the golf swing is the golf swing like corn flakes are corn flakes – the ingredients of a good golf swing don’t change, just like the ingredients of corn flakes do not change. There are no new golf swings that will make you better. However, the packaging or in golf terms, the way of explaining the golf swing so that a Golfer can improve – can always improve.
The packaging equates (but isn’t limited) to: being able to continually help Golfers using improved concepts such as better, more effective drills that will help you to feel your golf swing. Developing training methods so that Golfers can better understand their golf swing, without having to think about too many things on every swing, along with understanding how to fix it quickly after a bad shot. And then training Golfers to practice their golf swing more efficiently using a PLAN based on their Strengths and Weaknesses as opposed to just beating golf balls like the Monkeys on the range.
There will never be a new golf swing that will be invented that will help Golfers to improve their ball striking (the actual corn flake doesn’t change). However, Golf Instructors can improve their communication skills and knowledge of the golf swing so that we can teach the golf swing in a simpler manner. Yes, there are varying degrees of talent amongst Instructors – yet, there are no new golf swings.
Yes, there are many movements in the golf swing using all the different parts of your body. Most Golf Instructors will teach you all those movements. And unfortunately many Golfers think that just because an Instructor talks about all those movements – that must mean this Instructor is a good Instructor. On the contrary – an Instructor that needs to talk about all those movements is a weak and ineffective Instructor who probably doesn’t have many Golfers that improve. Yet, they maybe held in high esteem just because they talk like they know what they’re doing.
For years (and still today), many less informed Golf Instructors will teach a Golfer to turn their shoulders and turn your hips and to shift your weight. Three things that most Golfers have been taught and try to do on every golf swing – yet, more times than not; fail to accomplish doing it effectively – thus resulting in an errant golf shot.
On the other hand, a talented Golf Instructor can have you doing all three things without you having to think about doing all three things every golf swing. We help you to do all of the above without thinking about it. Talented Golf Instructors help you by formulating drills that will have you doing all those things naturally – meaning without consciously thinking about it.
Creating good habits in your golf swing without you having to think about it is the first step to a consistent golf swing. And when you can do that – you’ll swing smoother and you’ll hit the golf ball better and more consistent.
The Golf Instructor that feels the need to teach you everything about the golf swing is like the sports hero being interviewed on TV that uses big, fancy words to hide the fact that he graduated high school only because he was a star athlete. So he’ll use fancy words to make him appear smarter and/or more talented – although many times he won’t even use these words correctly.
“You have to make sure that you use a one piece takeaway so that your swing path starts slightly to the inside while making sure you maintain the proper posture. As you’re doing this, your club will be starting on plane as your shoulders turn 90 degrees to the target, hips 45 degrees and that you have 55% of your weight on your right foot and 45% of your weight on your left foot. Then you must ….”
‘Oh, that guy sounds like he knows what he’s talking about. I need to listen to what he’s teaching!”
The skill of a fabulous Instructor is to take all those movements and find a way to wrap them up for the Golfer into one movement. For example: If you ever see a Golfer that’s struggling with their game – do they have more or less swing thoughts than someone that’s playing well? Of course – they have way too many swing thoughts. “Oh, this is terrible – I have so much I’m thinking about on every swing.”
And then this Golfer will go take a golf lesson to improve their golf swing and lo and behold, what might that Golf Instructor do? If it’s like most golf lessons – the Golf Instructor gives this already confused Golfer even more to think about. Why? Because many Instructors want to prove to you how much they know about the golf swing. And they’re going to prove it to you that they know a lot – if you like it or not.
And more times than not – that Golfer walks away more confused, playing worse and swearing to never take another golf lesson again. Which is unfortunate because there are some really excellent Golf Instructors available.
On the other hand – when you speak to a Golfer that’s hitting the golf ball great and ask them what they were thinking about on that last shot, it often is: “I don’t know, I was just trying to make a smooth golf swing.”
So if that’s the case – it’s no wonder why most people get worse after the typical golf lesson. Because the typical Golf Instructor talks about all these little movements and you try to do as your Instructor says and then you struggle on the golf course. Yet, the talented Instructor knows how to take all those movements and have you make all those movements without you having to think about it.
A truly great and talented Golf Instructor doesn’t care about being perceived as intelligent – all we care about is that our Golfers are improving.

Hello sports fans its fitting that I am talking about playing golf today when the biggest snow storm of the season hit the northeast today. I love playing golf but today I couldn’t play golf even with a bright yellow ball and a shovel. Even though there is snow up to your thigh you should be taking this time off of golf to be getting your mental golf game together. Jack Nicklaus or one of the greats used to say that the game of golf was played between the six inches between your ears. Take this time to perfect your golf game now so you can shoot your best scores when the official golf season gets here. Yes I said it perfect your golf game NOW (in the snow). Take a moment and think of your golf strengths and weaknesses. If you are a good scrambler but erratic of the tee club it down and play for position and let your tee shot set up your approach golf shot. You should be attempting to hit the fairway and begin play from there. If you limit your golf mistakes and raise your golf IQ you will indeed have more fun and play better golf instantly. It starts NOW not on the first tee in May. Let’s say you are a long driver of the golf ball but your iron play is shoddy hit the bomb drive and then short iron your way home. Remember whether hail, rain, sleet or snow man there is no substitute for putting so practice your stroke continuously all you need is your putter, some carpet, your golf ball, a target and a sympathetic family to practice your stroke. That is if you care anything about your golf game. Remember golf is played in your brain so fix it now and play the best golf of your life. When the snow melts I will be ready. Will you? Check back with me often more tips to come! (Honey did you see that the there is alot of break in this carpet!)
